Wash Area Coordinator

The Wash Station Coordinator is a critical aspect of our farm’s success. This person is responsible for working closely with the Harvest Manager to make sure that the produce that leaves our farm is of the highest quality and is packed correctly. The Wash Station Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Process and organize incoming produce:

·         Prepare wash station for use by organizing, filling tubs, and putting bins out.

·         Weigh or count food items for CSA to be sure we have enough.

·         Direct workers in the wash station to process produce in a suitable order.

·         Teach workers how to process each crop and make sure they’re washing correctly.

·         With input from farm manager and other bunchers, create an RB for each bunched crop and oversee bunching.

·         Record what and how much we send to market or CSA and inform the Harvest Manager if there’s a shortage.

Maintain wash station environment:

·         Wash dirty coolers or delegate to someone else.

·         Delegate someone to remove compost daily.

·         Complete a weekly inventory every Monday about what supplies are needed (ties, rubber bands, harvest logs, gloves, soap, sanitation supplies, hinges.)

·         Keep wash station and all supplies organized!

·         Turn water off at source every night. Drain hoses when they’re in danger of freezing.

Clean and stock trucks for market and CSA:

·         Organize and sweep truck and make sure we have everything we need for CSA or market.

·         Supervise loading of truck with coolers and bins or food.

·         Empty and clean truck after every market or CSA.

Managing a wash station busy as ours requires a number of special skills. The successful candidate will be able to:

·         Organize and be productive in the midst of chaos.

·         Prioritize the most urgent tasks.

·         Communicate well verbally in English (Spanish is very helpful as well).

·         Keep track of numbers and accurately complete paperwork.

·         Work quickly and independently.

·         Maintain consistency in quality, bunch size, etc.

·         Keep up good relationships with fellow workers.
