Manager
Pay rate: $11.50 - $12/hour based on
experience. Plus $0.50/hour end-of-season bonus for every hour you worked
during the season.
Along with the Harvest Manager (position already filled) and the 63rd Street Manager, the Grow Manager is critical to Red Wagon’s success. This person must be able to work well with Wyatt and with the entire farm crew. Responsibilities for Grow Manager include the following:
Oversee irrigation for all crops:
· Supervise irrigation setup.
· Anticipate irrigation part needs and communicate with Wyatt.
· Irrigate all crops adequately.
· This may require working late hours and weekends, especially in the spring.
Cultivate all crops at appropriate times:
· Prepare for and supervise manual cultivation of all crops.
· Communicate with tractor driver about what tasks (cultivation and otherwise) need to be accomplished.
Supervise other non-harvest fieldwork: row covering, planting, etc.
· Maintain a weekly to-do list and prioritize tasks so the most important ones get done first.
· Stay ahead of employees so they will always have something to do.
· Make sure all tools are put away at the end of the day.
Along with the Harvest Manager, maintain an accurate record of what’s planted in the field.
Communicate with Wyatt via phone throughout the day and at the end of each day.
In addition, the Grow Manager must begin the season with a number of skills and a high level of commercial farm experience. The successful applicant will able to demonstrate:
· Proficiency in operating a tractor.
· Good driving record.
· Excellent verbal communication. Spanish is very helpful but not required.
· Mechanical diagnosis and problem-solving skills
· Ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks.
· Two to three years of full-season experience on a commercial farm.
